Online configurator for custom plastic parts
Research, redesign and validation of Formary's thermoforming configurator, from customer interviews to a tested, developer-ready prototype and design system.
Every time sales had to step into an order, it cost time, so Formary wanted ordering to be simpler and more automated. Two things got in the way: the interface was hard to understand (six tabs, no sense of progress, settings hidden behind links), and every part needed its own full run, while customers order many parts at once.
Interviews with 8 customers, a UX audit and a prototype test with 9 people from sales, dev and marketing, which moved product type before file upload. Then 7 clear steps with progress, one upload zone that sorts files by type (early versions had three), an NDA option and multi-item editing, tested 1-on-1 with 4 former clients in German.
Clients can now order online without calling sales first, and sales spend less time on each order. I handed over an interactive prototype with six user scenarios, a design system and specs for developers.
The only designer on the team (UX/UI designer): research, UX audit, IA, interaction design, UI, design system, prototyping, usability testing and developer handoff.
